Apple releases website and app for coronavirus screening

From CNN’s Brian Fung

  From Apple.com

Apple on Friday released a website and an iOS app that allows users to screen themselves for coronavirus symptoms, marking another response to the pandemic by a major tech platform.

Both tools were developed in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the White House's Coronavirus Task Force and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Apple said in a statement to CNN. The app and website include a questionnaire and information about the novel coronavirus.

The website is https://www.apple.com/covid19.

The app can be downloaded here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id1504132184

Apple said it will not collect or store users’ answers to the questionnaire, though it will collect anonymous information about usage of the tools.

nice...quick and easy...I'm good!

but in all seriousness, there are some people on this forum like @JarsOfClay who have stated they have some of these systems...they should be going through this survey

I just want the mathematicians and freedom grabbers to put their names by a number. They are pretty good at mocking and kitty cat emojis but not so willing to pull the balls out and stand for something. We need a poll for death total

lol, GTFO of here with this.

From Washington Post

Italy confirms 919 deaths in past day, marking world’s highest daily death toll since outbreak began

An additional 919 people died of the coronavirus in Italy in the past day, Italian officials said Friday, marking the world’s highest one-day jump in deaths in a single country since the outbreak began late last year.

The dramatic uptick in deaths far surpasses Italy’s earlier highest daily death toll of 793, which was announced Saturday.

At a news conference announcing the latest numbers Friday, officials also confirmed an additional 50 deaths that had been omitted from the previous day’s death toll due to an error.

The new data brings the country’s total death toll to 9,134 dead since February.

Officials also announced 5,959 more confirmed cases in the country.

While I agree...if you read the article it's not quite as damning as the headline makes it out to be

I did read it.

Up to 80 percent of the 150,000 portable, quick coronavirus test kits China delivered to the Czech Republic earlier this month were faulty, according to local Czech news site Expats.cz.

That seems pretty bad to me.

true...though the next line

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Jan Hamacek downplayed the discovery that many of the tests were faulty, blaming it on a possible wrong methodology and saying the kits can still be used “when the disease has been around for some time,” or when “someone returns after quarantine after fourteen days.”

“In my opinion, this is not about some scandalous revelation that it is not working,” Hamacek said.

Listen pal, the Angels would only be a game out of first place by now if it weren't for the Chinese. They deserve whatever hate we want to throw their way.

Awesome...the dude who fixed the testing issues (sic) is one the case...Jared Kushner to the rescue

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/26/us/politics/coronavirus-ventilators-trump.html

The White House had been preparing to reveal on Wednesday a joint venture between General Motors and Ventec Life Systems that would allow for the production of as many as 80,000 desperately needed ventilators to respond to an escalating pandemic when word suddenly came down that the announcement was off.

The decision to cancel the announcement, government officials say, came after the Federal Emergency Management Agency said it needed more time to assess whether the estimated cost was prohibitive. That price tag was more than $1 billion, with several hundred million dollars to be paid upfront to General Motors to retool a car parts plant in Kokomo, Ind., where the ventilators would be made with Ventec’s technology.....

....

At the center of the discussion about how to ramp up the production of ventilators is Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and a senior White House aide, who has told people that he was called in two weeks ago by Vice President Mike Pence to produce more coronavirus test kits and who has now turned his attention to ventilators.

He has been directing officials at FEMA in the effort. Two officials said the suggestion to wait on the General Motors offer came from Col. Patrick Work, who is working at FEMA. Some government officials expressed concern about the possibility of ordering too many ventilators, leaving them with an expensive surplus.
