Do the Angels have the worst September schedule ever?

Recommended Posts

Actually, late August to the end of the season.

From August 19th, the final 35 games of the year, 32 of them are against division leaders or teams in wild card contention.

New York Yankees - 3 games

Houston Astros - 10 games

Cleveland Indians - 3 games

Tampa Bay Rays - 3 games

Oakland A's - 5 games

Texas Rangers - 5 games

and last but not least, Boston Red Sox - 3 games

Absolutely brutal.

Cleveland is now tied with Minnesota for the Central division lead.

They sure got healthy after playing us.

They were incredibly hot prior to playing us. They were 18-6 in July, we started playing them August 2nd.

Because they're the Angels, they'll probably go like 18-7 in September and finish 4 games out of the second wild card.

I would absolutely love this actually.  That would mean that a lot of really good stuff happened to give us hope for next year

like Sandoval continuing to pitch well
or Suarez finding his control and showing us why he's a top 100 guy
or Rengifo catching fire
or Trout being Trout
or Canning coming back strong
or Heaney coming back strong
or Upton getting out of his slump
or Rojas getting called up and doing well.

I'm way more interested in that kind of stuff than getting the 10th pick instead of the 14th.

Well, here we go.

24 games remaining, 3 of them against the White Sox who are 15 games under .500.

21 of the games are against teams with an average record 29 games OVER .500. We are 15 games under .500 against teams with a winning record.

Do the math. We may win 76 games this year if we get lucky. More likely, 72-90.

Getting a top ten pick would be nice.

I think 76 wins is spot on. It’s been a tough season.

To win 76 we need to go 11-13 in our remaining games.

We are 9-19 since August 1st.

Against the remaining teams we will face (Oakland, Chicago, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, New York, and Houston), we are 14-27 this season and that includes 3-1 vs the White Sox. We are 3-9 against Houston and we have seven full games left with them.

76 wins is optimistic.

Yes we do. But this may actually be a blessing. Here's why? we're not making the playoffs, all we can do is continue moving down the draft order. currently we are at 12th, a few wining % away from a top 10 draft. We know that their is a high chance that we will lose a 2nd round pick, so best thing possible for us to to get a top 10, and maybe overpay a top 5 guy that may have slipped due to signing bonus and grab him.

I'll take the under at this point.
