Sean Newcomb

He may be headed to the bullpen.  At this particular point in time, he looks like nothing special.

1.43 career whip and 1.67 so far this year.  Heck, Joe Blanton's lifetime whip was better than that.

As bad as the Angel pitching staff is right now (team whip 1.37), you could actually argue the Angels pitching would be worse with Newcomb.

Sean who?

Oh, the untested dude Billy sold off with another bust for Andrelton.;

THAT Sean.

Ain't Andrelton something special, though?

Sometimes you have to decide who you think is worth taking the risk trading.

I love that the Angels have an actual list of prospects now compared to a few years ago when they had almost nothing.

But my opinion is the list of untouchables is extremely short, leaving a good number of bodies I would be fine packaging for something that truly solves a problem.

The team that trades away the better player usually loses.

That trade they did for Dansby Swanson in 2016 hoping he'd be their Simmons replacement hasn't really lived up to the hype either (though that trade was still obscenely lopsided for the Braves).

Swanson has an OPS of .832

True, maybe he'll figure it out this year.  He's still young.

With how many great SS are around now though I wouldn't say he's lived up to "No.1 Overall" levels of greatness.  This is the first year he's had an OPS over .699.

I hated to give up Newcomb, as good as we knew Simmons was then (even better now)....I questioned the trade but I was wrong...Hated to give up young pitching, particularly since Newcomb was about all we had....Honestly, it has been Eppler’s best move...Getting Upton cheap was a good move but nothing has really compared since, trade or FA....
