I would be ecstatic to have him as part of our org.   Definitely see him being an asset for 4-5 years but his weight is going to be an issue.

Seriously though, I think Vlad Jr needs to realize he has two choices:

1) Eat whatever wants and be Prince Fielder.

2) Get on a healthy diet and be Miggy Cabrera.

Fielder was really, really good, but Miggy was the best hitter in baseball for awhile and a Hall of Famer.

He is not a good 3rd baseman. At least not since the last I saw of him play in Fall League ball. Eventually the Blue Jay's just may have to move him to first base to keep him on the field.

What is the alternative? Every player is a free agent immediately?

The whole service time "problem" - which really isnt a problem at all given how few players it affects - can easily be fixed by giving a player credit for a full season once he spends, say, 60 percent of a year on a roster. That would require teams to hold back the player into June, rather than 10 days into the season. Teams would be far less likely to do that for players like Vlad Jr.

Exactly my thoughts, freakish power but equally non freakish stature.  If he doesnt do something about the body hes a DH waiting to happen.   Certainly not a 3B, which will hurt his projected value.  Tor needs to tell him to skip the burger or get a 1B mitt.
