Well, they are looking at ways of paying for their spending already too.

Democrats look to impose capital gains tax at death

That’s not fair that everyone’s children can’t inherit the deceased’s wealth that they worked for. They deserve to have government take their money and give it to others

What did they think was going to happen when they immediately reversed all of Trump's border policies? I believe they knew this was going to happen as the goal has always been to allow as many of them to come over as possible. They know those on the left that voted for him do not care about what's happening there now and they're probably trying to convince themselves that this is just a made up "crisis" by the republicans.

What changes have they even made?

I believe they reversed the "stay in Mexico" policy and halted the construction of the border wall. That sends a big message right there to anyone wanting to come over. As far as changed, I don't know if they've added anything else of their own yet other than undoing Trump Admin stuff. probably should have developed their own plan before dismantling the previous stuff.

I agree there was no replacement plan which was extremely dumb (although Biden has said he wants more technology used as a barrier but we’ll see). When it comes to the border though, it seems like there is always a fluctuation and potential crisis. 2019 was a crisis year with regards to illegal crossings and the highest in twelve years up to that point.

Isn’t that when Trump did the stay in Mexico thing? At least Trump was willing to do some things to help stop it

Yep and that is mentioned in the article. But what I was pointing out is even with a tough stance on the border, people still try to cross illegally. It’s always a ongoing situation.

It's ridiculous that these discussions have been going on for decades because the federal government hasn't done it's job.  It's even more ridiculous that people who break the law by illegally entering the country jump the line ahead of people who are trying to go through the process legally.  Our country is approaching 30T in debt and can't even take care of it's own and there's no reason we should be paying to house, feed and educate other countries citizens.  Trump at least tried to make countries south of the border accountable and it worked for a while.  What's going on now requires a strong response or it's only going to get worse.

Yeah they are in the process of reversing the stay in Mexico policy, which I think is one of the few things Trump did that was actually good. The quantity of people trying to cross and the conditions they are forced to live under is simply an unfortunate inevitability of the situation and really out of Biden's control.

Of course it’s always going to be an issue but they need a permanent solution and one that doesn’t encourage continued illegal immigration

The issue is there will never be consistent enforcement of immigration laws. Republicans want strict policies and Democrats want lose ones. It’s the same thing when parents do not enforce the same rules for their children

People live in shit circumstances all over the globe (some worse than Mexico and Central America) but it isn’t really our problem to deal with. It’s sad for these people but it’s just the way things are

I'm not sure there is a permanent solution.

There isn’t a perfect one but if one is consistently enforced, regardless of the party in power, it will be more effective
