Eppler's Manager

Recommended Posts

Josh Paul, Brad Ausmus are the most likely candidates given that Eppler brought them in and they currently work for the Angels in some capacity.

I think what's even more interesting is if they do replace Scioscia, will any of the remaining coaches stay on board?  For example, let's say Paul is promoted, do Dino Ebel and Alfredo griffin say, "F it, I just got passed for a job by a kid that's only been here a year and I've been here a decade.  I'm out."

But yeah, I had to guess I'd say if they do get rid of Scioscia, it'll be Ausmus as manager, Paul as bench coach, Nagy and Hinske stay on.  Everyone else is replaced.

I don't know about Josh Paul.  I think he's 100% a Scioscia guy.  Think about the days when the Angels carried 3 catchers and one of them was Paul... it was somewhat of a waste of a roster spot.  And then there's the whole 2005 play-off fiasco with Pierzynski...   I think Josh Paul is 100% a Scioscia hire.

Nagy and Hinske would likely go too if Scioscia was fired.

As long as the incoming manager can work well with young players, that is the most important thing to me.   The rest will follow.    Veterans will not have as big of a role here, going forward, unless they are All-Star caliber.   The rotating in and out of veterans past their prime is getting old.   I get why it was done, while the farm was being built.   But going forward, a strong farm means less peanuts to sift through and especially older ones.
