Advice: Taking a trip to Oakland to watch the Halos

Recommended Posts

I go to A's games all the time, as I live nearby. Parking used to be free at the bart station and made it easy to park there then walk across the overpass, but I'm sure they'll charge on opening day. I'd say eat in Berkeley then bart to the coliseum. Angeline's Kitchen is my favorite spot in Berkeley.

agree with guy who said take BART in and out.

opening night could be a tough ticket but the next night should be able to get real good seats -- even walk ups.

other than opening day/ night -- you should be able to get real good seats at the Coliseum -- a lot better than you can get at the Big A and for a lot less.

BART is easy and cheap, but expect to find a few drunks on it.

my mom went to an A's game after dropping me off for my freshman year in college (we had a neighborhood friend of ours playing for the white sox that night). she bought a ticket half an hour before the game and sat in the third row by the dugout. that was in 1978, and things have not changed since then.

You'll be fine - I've been going to Angels vs A's games in oaktown since college at Cal. They are a blast.

Wear your angels stuff, no one cares. There might be trash talking, but nothing aggressive. And both teams tend to suck, so really no one cares what you wear.

There is an Irish pub, go there for guinness. They renamed the Westside Club to Schibe Tavern - it has pool tables and legit cocktails and food.

The street trucks outside the stadium are great too.

Or you could pregame nearby in Berkeley like SigBaby mentioned, since you are coming from the north.

Bring quarters for the electric ridable elephant.

Yeah I went for years and the only issues I had were at a couple of games (and it was really bad only one of the games) and those were in 2012 and 2014 when both teams were competing for the division.  Guys were legitimately trying to coerce me into a fight with the things they were saying.  But thats 2 games out of about 10 I went to while living up there.

Its been a while.

But when my son and I went we stayed at Jack London Square. It's absolutely beautiful. We took the BART right to the stadium, crossed the pedestrian bridge and sat in our seats. At the end of the game, we crossed the pedestrian bridge and got back on the BART. This limited our exposure to the natives.

Enjoy,

Go Halos!!!

I had this problem back in 2004(?). I believe that was the year the Angels clenched in Oakland and I was in my Angels gear. My dad quickly escorted me out as fans started getting hostile.

Go with Option B:

Place open trash cans from a local Vietnamese kitchen around you, enclose a small pack of feral dogs and cats in the same room, sit on a bucket with a fabricated backrest that may or may not support you, and watch the game on a 60" HD tv.  Be sure to have warm beer readily available and a piss pot.

That should check most of the boxes for the Oakland Alameda County Colosseum.
