Altuve has to be pretty much the first pick of all writers for the MVP this year. I know there will be a few scattered numbnutz that will pick Judge, and even a random Trout first pick but Altuve is the real MVP.

The writers have already posted their votes but this game is just showing how damn good he is. He has ripped Sale for two deep home runs giving Huston their lead.

All season he was the only Astro I didn't want to see leading off or with runners on when the Angels faced him. And the Angels actually kept him in check somewhat, he batted .286/.349/.411/.760 against them.

Huston looks like they are going to dismantle the Red Sox. I hope they do and finish in Boston just to make sure the largest audience (East Coast media) sees why they ran away with the division.

And Altuve will be a big part of that.

What helps is the 2 run single McCann just belted to right field with one out.

Sale 5 IP 7 Earned Runs, 3 Home Runs.

Now the Red Sox Bogartes bobbles a double play ball so it's 1st and 3rd with two outs.

smoking a brisket today...awesome

watching both AL east teams (hopefully) lose..

priceless.

Was thinking of doing this with all of the time off I have. The problem is we don't have enough people to eat a full brisket and I'm not much of a freezer guy. Does it work well with smaller cuts?

Yeah...you don't have to do a full brisket. A real brisket is about 20-25 lbs. I am smoking about 4.5 lbs.  The trick is brining-marinating for a couple days then smoking it at a super low temperature for a long time. It makes awesome sandwiches/burritos/machaca for a few days afterward.

Last of the tomatoes, up here near the 45th parallel. We've already had nights in the 30s. No more ripening, so it's time for saucing.

Not as sexy as brisket, though.

Fires and evacuations ended my gardening interest this year, otherwise I'd be canning/saucing/pickeling right now too.
