For the first time in almost two years, the Angels are 5 games over .500.

They had 5 previous cracks this season to get there and went 0-5.

I still think it's going to take 10 games over to get the 2nd wild card spot.

So, you're expecting either the Twins or the Oriels to go off a bit for the rest of the year? Probably not crazy, especially with the Twins. Still, they will have to go something like 15-8 to get near 10 games above 500. Again, not crazy, but that is winning every series from here on out, right?

So, to do that we need to go 14-9 from here out. Feels pretty doable the way we are playing - especially if our starters settle down. Even a little guys. Like...give up 4 runs through 5 or 6 innings. Whatever. Anything. Anything at all.

One of the 7 teams battling for the 2nd WC figures to get hot at some point.   Halos are 23-13 though, since the Indians swept them in late July.

Since that day, AL teams 4, or more, games over .500:

Cleveland +18

Angels + 10

Red Sox +8

Orioles +8

Twins +6

Rangers +4

Royals were red hot at the time and have gone 13-22.

Can't see them going 15-7, that's for dang sure.

6 vs houston, 3 vs cleveland, 6 vs seattle, 3 vs texas, 4 vs white sox. 12 very tough games there, 10 games that we need to do very well in. If we swept the 10 (not going to happen), we would need to take 5/12 from houston, cleveland, and texas. Not easy, but not impossible. if we split against the sox and win 2/3 against seattle (most likely result), then we will need to take 11/12 against the big three. that feels...impossible. The way I see it, the path forward is: win each series against the big teams- 4/6 vs houston, 2/3 against cleveland, and 2/3 against texas. Then, sweep seattle, and take 3/4 against the sox. This means we get really hot. This isn't....IMPOSSIBLE...but...its for sure not easy. It would basically mean that yesterday was the beginning of a trend for pitching, and just a blip for our hitting. Also, if we manage that, then we should do fairly well in the post season.

All that is to say...we kind of need either the yankees to fall apart a bit, or the twins to play a game worse than us. Per fivethirtyeight odds, the twins are expected to go 12-11. To tie that, we would need to go 12-10. To go ahead, we need 13-9. This gives us 2-3 more losses over 22 games, which helps a lot. It still means a very hard push. fivethirtyeight expects us to go 11-11, which obviously isn't going to cut it. If we end up with that record, we don't deserve the post season. Forecasting a bit, we are given 49-51 against tomorrow with nolasco on the mound. that would be a nice game to win. 50-50 with heaney on the mound, and 48-52 against with bridwell on the mound. A sweep here would mean a lot. against the indians we have a nolasco vs kluber game where we are expected to lose by a large margin - a win there would really help us. Overall I think the biggest thing we can do is get skaggs and heaney pitching well, and richards stretched out.

We have a long hard road ahead of us, but the way I look at it...we will be playing against playoff teams. If we can't manage to rack up some wins against them, then none of this even matters, because we would just get killed in the playoffs anyways. Now, we either prove that we belong in the playoffs, or prove that this team was never going to do anything this year.
