If Upton does opt out, I hope Long doesn't go Segura on us and becomes a top 2 starter for the Tiggers.   That would suck to lose that for a rental.

I think he is our #9 prospect. starting pitcher. given our farm, #9 isn't super impressive imo. Given Eppler's history, I'm not super worried about losing an SP. so, its really just like signing upton for a decent chunk of money.

Such a great trade.  Turning one of the weak spots in the lineup to one of the best, and there's a possibility that he may not opt-out by playing along side the GOAT!

Horrible trade...Upton isn't the piece to take the Angels into the playoffs this year...they need pitching with Skaggs not doing well, Ramirez probably out for the season, Nolasco stinking like he has and who knows now about Bridwell now after his clunker yesterday.  That only leaves Heaney and who knows about him either.  Richards is a long ways off too...two innings?

So with that in mind they gave up a solid prospect who had a really good year at AA (better than Barria) for probably nothing but a wiff of the playoffs this year...and who knows who the PTBNL will be...hopefully not a  prospect like Williams...

Could have signed Upton after he opted out and kept Long...so as I said...a horrible trade in the long view.

Right - i'd worry more if we didn't have 3 pitching prospects ranked above him, like 4 coming back from the DL, and a knack for turning out solid SP.

Tough to give up someone like that when you consider how expensive #4 pitchers are now.  Upton is a gigantic upgrade though.  Just gotta hope he doesn't opt out.
