Appreciation for Eppler

I just want to say that I think he's done a fantastic job since taking over the reins. You can imagine where the team would be if we had half the injuries.

As one who criticizes him i will admit that i agree, he has done a fabulous job in many ways, (Simmons etc...) though i still wonder about the lack of activity in other areas.   Regardless a definite upgrade from recent predecessors

the lack of activity in those 'other' areas is almost certainly related to financial restrictions.

Think I read the first Mariner fan say "we shoulda signed Eppler instead of Dipoto" post on a Seattle board the other day.

I love Eppler, even though Espinosa and Valbuena haven't really worked out.

Lookout Landing -- I saw that post too -- and the funny part is he downplayed some of our injuries and incorrectly believed Tropeano had pitched this year.   But his side by side comparison was pretty much an indictment of the smartest man in the room.

To be fair half those injuries are all Dipoto guys.

That doesn't matter. If it wasn't for the depth that he acquired, we'd be in the shitter, not in a wild card spot.

Imagine this team without Bridwell, Simmons, Parker and Petit.

I agree.  I haven't been able to watch as many games recently, but it feels as though he has been better of late.

I think all of us were in favor of the Valbuena signing. It sucks that he hasn't performed, but you can't strike gold with every signing.

I am very happy with the moves Eppler has made.  I wasn't too excited thinking he was riding the Yankees' success.  However, now that he is running the show, he's done a great job eyeing talent, even though some of the moves haven't worked out.

I definitely think Eppler to date has been the better GM.

He has not traded three of his top 10 prospects along with Petit for Jason Vargas, and this makes him heads and shoulders above  Dipoto and Reagins..

I've been very impressed by the bullpen he's put together albeit spending very little and not trading any prospects

I like Eppler a lot.  But the thing I'm most hoping he's been able to turn around is our scouting and minor league development.  The jury is still out on that.

From an outside perspective, Eppler has assembled a better front office team to help with decision making. His skills as an executive and working with others to reach a goal is much more effective than the previous GMs.

My only concern so far with his drafts is taking a guy (Pearson) with a torn labrum history in the 3rd round a year ago.

Eppler has done a great job. He has absolutely struck gold on the Simmons, Ramirez, Bridwell, and Parker transactions. His mistakes - most notably Valbuena - have not been costly to the team. 

I can't wait to see what he does with some spending money this offseason.
