Cubs acquire Quintana

I thought Mrs. Epstein was the only person who go to do to Theo what the White Sox just did. I at least hope they were gentle.

The Cubs shouldn't be in "win now" mode? They just won the WS and are set to win a few more really soon. The only thing they need is starting pitching.

Quintana isn't worth what they gave up? Not one of those players has a day in MLB. Quintana is an ace on most ML staffs, is 26, and is going to cost around 10 mil a year and is under control until 2020. Do you even understand how cheap that is? That's 3.5 years for one year of starting ace money in today's market.

They have Hendricks (CY candidate last season) coming off the DL and can move 2 pitchers that have been starting for them,  to the pen.

It's a more than solid deal for both teams.

JC Ramirez has a higher WAR, a better W/L record, same ERA, same number of innings, and same ERA+(+1) than Quintana.

Those two are pretty equal this season so far with the edge going to JC.

Stats don't always tell the whole story. Quintana doesn't have the same luxury as Ramirez since the White Sox play horrible defense.

Lester, Hendricks, Quintana...that's a pretty nice 1-2-3 comin at the NL. Maddon can mix and match the rest of his staff. By all accounts Quintana is a powerful presence off the mound, as well as on.

I think the Cubs will be a different team in the second half

And with Sale gone, Quintana was carrying the whole load, on a shitty team

Just another 6'-6" 230lbs guy hitting .366/.428/.652/1.080 in AAA

I imagine that he will be the new first baseman for the Yankees. I think we could've got this guy.

If you want to buy into raw numbers without any perspective then the Angels 26 year old DH in SLC is putting up a .393.464/.550/1.013 line.   He's the same age as Cooper, plays a more demanding defensive position too.  If Carlos Perez doesn't tickle your fancy then Cesar Puello is hitting .390/.447/.644/1.091.  He too is 26 years old and even better those two are putting up those numbers in the tougher pitcher's park...   SLC's run index is 107, a pitcher's paradise compared to the 141 at Colorado Springs -- let that sink in a little before you go too deep into praise for the Yankees.

Cooper's numbers at Colorado Springs should be taken in the same exact context as Perez and Puello's at SLC.   Prior to this season Cooper's never put up a SLG% over .467 in any season.

Interesting to me is that the two Chicago teams made a big deal with a big name. Seems like the history here is it is taboo to make a deal between the Angels and the Dodgers.

Kendrick for Heaney is somewhat recent in Angels fans minds. Your's, not so much.

Except the stats do tell the story and you're just misinformed.

The CWS defensive efficiency in 2017 is at .711 -- 6th best in MLB.  The Angels are at .714 third best in MLB.   Both teams play well above average defense.  The Cubbies BTW are sporting a defensive efficiency of .713.

Quintana's a much better pitcher than Ramirez with a much more impressive track record of performance -- really it's a non argument....  but defensive shortcomings haven't been an issue.

You're absolutely correct on that. I was just pointing out the the Yankees are in need of a first baseman and they were able to nab the Brewers no.1 prospect who's a power hitter that might've been a good fit for us. Or maybe not.

Number one prospect?   Did you actually see that said somewhere?  Care to cite a single source anywhere that has him ranked highly?

https://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/1/17/14297686/milwaukee-brewers-top-20-prospects-for-2017   Sickles has a top 20 and then another 15 or so prospects ranked at C or better..   Cooper failed to make the rank but guess who did?  Damien Magnifico who the Angels acquired.

MLB.com has their own top 30 list..  http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=mil   No Cooper.

BB America's top 10...  http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2017-milwaukee-brewers-top-10-prospects/   Still no Cooper.

The only place he's ranked at all is here http://prospects1500.com/top-50-lists/milwaukee-brewers-top-50-prospects-2017/ where he comes in at 43.

Seriously, you may want to scale back the praise for the Yankees - -they found a 26 year old "never was" putting up huge numbers in an offense happy park and environment...   If the Angels had made this move you'd be going on and on about them having resorted to dumpster diving again.

If Cooper hits - great! they gave up nothing.  If he fails, who cares -- they gave up nothing.
