Not like he's being blocked by Cron or Valbuena...

Im not up on our prospects, but i thought we didnt really have a replacement for 1B in the system?

A promotion right now would make for good timing. It ups his value even if he struggles because, of course he's gona struggle at first.

Yeah.  Promotion to attract suitors.  If he can handle a decent month at AA, he starts to look a lot more valuable.

When you have guys like Hermosillo, Montgomery, Lund, Jones, Pearson, Marsh, Adell, Sanger, Deveaux and Knowles all in the OF, it makes Thaiss case for Amy sort of long term role there bleak.

If anything, I'd start exploring what Matt could do at 2B or 3B. He's fine at 1B as long as Cron is traded or isn't hitting.

Moving him off of first gives us positional flexibility.  All of our OF depth except Hermosillo is at A+ or below.  Thaiss is the most advanced at the plate of anyone outside of him.  The rest are at least 2-3 years away in all likelihood if they make it at all.  What if Thaiss does well with the bat in AA and spends a short bit of time in AAA to start next year?  

We're still gonna have Valbuena and Cron.  Let's be realistic.  Who will be in LF next year?  Maybe we sign a longer term solution in the offseason, but I doubt it.  

Let Thaiss get so OF time as a potential stop gap until Jones and Hermosillo prove they are ready.  

Whatever the scenario,  Thaiss' bat is likely marginal as a long term solution at 1b.  Let's prove he can play the OF too.  If anything it increases his trade value.

Yes, but that future may not be until 2019. Do you want another year and a half of Cron/Valbuena?
