Simmons took 5 weeks

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons suffered a torn ligament in his left thumb on May 8 during his team's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The injury required surgery, and Simmons was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 10. However, he is ready to return.

Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reported the Angels activated Simmons from the DL, and he will play shortstop and bat ninth Wednesday against Minnesota.

Gonzalez added that Brendan Ryan was designated for assignment to make room for Simmons.
