Trout hitting .325

Man the 2nd half has been a Trout/Pujols fantasy run, what you really hoped for this season out of Albert and Trout being much more rounded of a player than his rookie season.

Pujols 2nd half line .306/.332/.563/.894

Trout 2nd half line .331/.479/.601/1.081

The last 30 days have been even more impressive, Albert with a .968 OPS and Trout off the charts with a 1.265. No wonder we can't have a high draft pick.

And we have been playing about 500 ball despite having the worst pitching in the history of the major leagues.

Marte's 2nd half line (104 PAs): .316/.356/.600/.956

Cron's 2nd half line (63 PAs): .339/.349/.597/.946

And don't forget other second half stats such as Simmons' .290 average and .344 OBP, Bandy's .750 OPS, Calhoun's .741 OPS, and Escobar's .325 average and .386 OBP.

No wonder we are scoring chingos of runs.

Bandy, Calhoun and Escobar are all in the .750-.800 range. Pujols and Marte are right at a .800 OPS. Cron is in the mid .800's. Trout is over 1.000 OPS. Simmons and rotating 2B are only ones 'below average' offensively.

Marte needs to learn LF this offseason, keep Cowart at second to start next year, and keep this offense intact.

It's ironic. We have the best player in the game, as well as a future Hall-of-Famer who can still bring it, and they're both preventing us from doing what we need to in order to get back into contention.

I guess  you need an adequate pitching staff to win in the major leagues.

Good stuff!

Contrary to what most think about 2017, I'm pretty F'n excited about next season.

are you pretty F'n excited about our pitching staff for next season?

we had a run like this earlier in the season too. it's the nature of baseball. baseball fans may have the shortest memory of all sports fans. until we get another 12 quality guys, this team is going nowhere.

It's kinda like spring training. There's no pennant race for them to worry about so there's no pressure on them every at bat. Looks like they're having fun.

A .325 average is great in my book but there are some here that will think its a useless stat cause its part of the triple crown.

It's not useless but it's use is very limited. It's not RBI, but it's also probably not one of the 10 best stats to evaluate a player's offensive contribution let alone total contribution.

The bullpen has a chance to eventually be very solid.

The rotation seems light years away (well at least two anyway).

I would say it is 2-3 years from being good.

Best case scenario next year is that Shoemaker comes back healthy and this year's version, at least one of Meyer, Oberholtzer and Banuelos is a pleasant surprise, and Richards doesn't break down and can pitch 150ish innings, and Skaggs becomes more consistent. Even so, that's an at best average "work in progress" rotation.

But then 2018 could be much better: Skaggs with a full year under his belt, Richards hopefully still healthy and more confident in his arm, and Heaney and Tropeano coming back, although probably slowly at first. But I like the rotation of Richards, Shoemaker, Skaggs, Heaney, and Tropeano, with Meyer, Ober and Banny as talented depth. Who knows, perhaps if one of those three breaks through, the Angels can trade Shoemaker for a left fielder.

BA isn't "useless," it is just less useful than OBP, OPS+, wRC+, etc.

Anyhow, even if Trout hits .250 the rest of the way, he'll finish around .315. He'd have to hit around .160 to finish below .300.

No offense AJ, but your history of jinxing makes me hope the mods remove this.

Reminds me of when Mr burns put together his team of ringers, and mused the odds of 9 guys not being able to play, "I'd like to see that"

Trout either gonna get knocked out arguing British politics now, or end up inot a mystery hole. So she will get radiation poisoning, and calzone will finally win.
