Unless they plan on starting Nate Smith's clock, and im betting they are not, your starter is either going to be Lincecum or Chacin.  Both suck equally so I'm not seeing a point to release him until maybe Sept 1st.

Scioscia won't embarrass him further.  Tim is a good guy and doesn't deserve to be put on an island.  But I do think the will release him shortly although i am not sure who they will have to replace him.  They might wait till after the deadline in case they trade away a starter.

Keep him.  We'll need some bodies throwing a ball to the catcher.  He also enhances our draft positioning.

the only thing i hope to get from this season is a protected draft pick. if they don't get that, then the season is a failure. i don't care who throws badly to get us there. what's the point of releasing a bad pitcher, to replace with another bad pitcher?

They'll try him in the bullpen before they DFA him......he had some success there with the Giants....very small sample size though....

I would be very curious to know what they saw from him in workouts to justify giving up a couple of million bucks. He was never going to be successful throwing this slow.

I hope so too. Maybe you could say in our position it was worth a try. But he is terrible and surely that would have been on show when he worked out for us.

So he is helping the Angels in a way. Lets hope they draft a Troy Glaus type prospect.

Given the poor state of the pitching staff and the lack of help on the farm, IMO it was worth it to at least try him out and see whether he has anything left. I believe that the question has been answered.

This team is going nowhere. There's nothing lost by keeping him in the rotation, nor is there anything gained by replacing him with whomever. Let him finish the season so we don't do anything stupid with any youngsters.

my guess is that they saw movement and reasonable velo figuring that his command would eventually come.  They haven't been able to fix him.  There is clearly a mechanical issue they are trying to work through.  maybe they get him right, maybe they don't.  Who cares at this point.
