signing a 32yo who has never played a game in major league baseball does nothing for us unless we were going to trade him and get younger.  This guy might have a 2-3 yr shelf life.  meh.

But what do we have to lose? Talent is talent, and if we can get him without much cost we improve our situation marginally.

Apparently, money is an issue.  So 20mil over the next 3-4 years means money we can't spend on other players.  I'd rather sign a real good pen arm than take a chance on this guy

Well, obviously everything comes down to cost and how much we have to spend. I'd rather take some chances on a Cuban player than pay market value for a free agent. There aren't many other ways for us to add position players to this team.

Makes a lot of sense to me.....Our options are limited so we need to think a little outside the box;....We may be in for a major dry spell if we don't.....if our scouts don't like this guy, then try something else outside the box, including maybe looking at another non-amateur Cuban FA who our scouts do like....

  • The Angels “are officially out” on Cuban third baseman Yulieski Gurriel, according to Heyman. The 32-year-old figures to command a significant multi-year deal, and adding another eight-figure average annual salary to the ledger would severely impede the Halos’ ability to avoid continual luxury tax penalization. Heyman also notes that Tim Lincecum could eventually become trade bait for the Angels if the team continue to struggle and if Lincecum performs well.

Why would anyone give an 8 figure deal to a 32 year old never proven at the MLB commodity? ... I could see an escalator ytpe contract and incentives and bonuses added type deal but straight up here's 10-12M per that's stupid shit the Los Doggs do!
