LE/Ten Ocho - Ask Him Anything

Recommended Posts

You know this guy Ten?

To me, it's absolutely moronic to provoke people who can unequivocally screw up your life. I may not agree with what LE is doing, but my goal is to be able to go home just as quickly as possible.

It's not a bad tactic to refuse to answer questions you are not required to answer. Cops are not your friends and you should be just as suspicious of their intentions when asking off the wall questions.

this is true, we are not your friends. Our job is to enforce laws, not assist you in getting away with it.

Then again if you do nothing suspicious youll never have a cop asking you off the wall questions.

Would you let a hot chick out of a ticket if she showed your her boobs?

both?

Sadly, ive seen plenty of boobs at work over the years...and theyre the ones that get burned into your mind...not the kind you wished you saw.

Also, try never to sleep naked. Lots of people wake up dead. Based on a decade of doing this i can say theres a lot more growers than showers in the world.

this is kind of up there with the sovereign citizen thing. And signature gatherers. Theres some bad info out there about certsin laws, as in "you can do this because of x,y, and z. And a lot of people get info based on old court decisions without knowing that a more recent decesion reversed the case theyre quoting.

Best tat ive seen so far was an PEN1 guy. PEN1 is a baby brother prison gang for the aryan brotherhood. Anyway, the first time i talked to him was on a ride along before i was a cop, then i stopped him like 7 years later as a cop in a totally different city (but bad guys bounce around and motel hop).

When he was locked up he pissed someone off and they cut his ears off. Thats usually something done by your own group, IE, im going with the AB ordered it. Anyway, im staring at him for a bit and i cant tell why he looks weird. Then i notice the ear thing, but hes got ear tats where his ears were. Looked like the guys from alien nation

Tweakers are hard core porn addicts. Porn addictd, like any other addiction, lead to the need for more and more hard core "doses".

One thing you can guarantee when you jam a tweak is they will have porn in their backpack (which is weird, because it will be a dvd, but their transient so who knows where they find a player), and i sh*t you not, a lot of gay and shemale porn. If thats your kick, more power to you, but these guys identify as totally straight. Its just that their brain doesnt get the same kick anymore from straight porn.

When they run out of kicks from shemale gangbangs i dont know what the next step would be.

IIRC, this guy has received at least one six figure settlement for being mistreated. It appears like he is well known to LE.

Thats another thing. Im pretty notorious for finding a fix it ticket when you did something righteous but are cool about it. Speeding tickets turn into front license plates tickets a lot.

Recently I got a new car. I haven't pulled over in a decade until now a CHP pulls me over because of the paper plate. I can see why it caught his attention because the dealer got cutesy and put his name on a faux euro-style plate. I pull over, roll down all windows because it is dark out and put my hands on the wheel—trying to be helpful. After I tell him that it is a dealer plate which he was incredulous about, he starts asking me about alcohol. I didn't have any but he becomes a dick about it even though I've been cool with him.

WTF is CHP cruising residential streets for anyway. The asshole was partnered up with a young dude. It felt like he was showing off for him.

What do you recommend people do when they're pulled over to put the officer at ease? I've been told by other LE that CHP are the biggest assholes.

If I was a cop I'd let most stuff go that didn't affect anyone, too. But I'd be a Nazi when it comes to texting, phone use, tailgating, littering, excessive speeding, any speeding during high traffic and the like. That shit is dangerous and I continually have close calls because of these factors. Also uber drivers are constantly meandering, flying through side streets and not paying attention to the road.

Another thing. I wouldn't ticket...but too many people drive with their high beams on. Can cops start setting these dopes straight? I see stars for a couple minutes after encountering these people.

Yeah, I don't get the high beams also.  I wonder if people are just clueless, and think that they can see better with high beams on, so they always keep them on.  Not knowing that high beams pretty much blind anyone in front and incoming traffic.

Ocho it sounds you really are one of the good guys out there. Thanks for sharing, not just in this thread but all the time. May you get a cushy desk job with the department soon!

That's a death sentence to a true beat cop. We had a cop friend that almost lost his mind working Diamond Bar because it was so boring. He transfered back to South Central and would have ate a gun if the gave him a desk job.

thanks bro, the only problem is the desk jobs are surrounded by brass....we dont generally see eye to eye

As far as CHP, yeah, they have a rep. In their defense, they see gnarly crashes pretty regular, so they take traffic seriously. So i cut them slack there. That said, whether its them, us, or the another agency, i personally hate when anyone sees EVERYTHING as black or white. And im a huge believer that sometimes regular people do something stupid. If there was no ill intent, no victim and the person im talking to has the right attitude, its usually see you later.

I would assume without personally knowing any of you that the most youre ever going to be stopped for is traffic. Honestly, if its a motor cop youre probably done because thats all they do. I would never in a million years want that job. 99 times out of 100 youre stopping regular people....i cant speak for other guys, but that wasnt even on my radar when i wanted to get this job.

the worst part are the guys that get admin jobs too quick...and promote

Do 3-4 years in the field, another 7 or so of detectives, then promote. Then come back out after being gone 8 years and tell a room full of guys with 15, 20 years in the field how to do the job.

Generally the younger guys are a lot more black and white. When youre in your eaely 20s and you havent really been around, you kind of get into tunnel vision about right and wrong. You stsrt easing up and figuring out whats a big deal and what isnt later on and recognize how to reason with people and solve the problem better. The guys who miss that part of development because they go inside too soon are usually the robot supervisors.

Avoid at all costs...

it seems like every motorcyclist in the county has to have his high beams on. irritating as can be that these jack holes can't dim them.

TORS, if you saw some crooked cops do some crooked shit, would you report them or stay silent, per the Cop Code?

i wont go so far to say the cop code doesnt exist....especially reading aome of rhe stories the last few years from back east, the south etc. Im kind of naive that i ised to roll my eyes at that stuff because i never saw it and so i chalked it up to false claims. But i guess it still happens today.

In all reality, at least in OC, those days are well in the past. Not saying some individual and maybe his partner if they wanted to couldnt go inder the radar and do something shady. But organizationally that whole culture is a thing of the past. The current generation of supervisors are all just about post rodney king, brought up in the era of lawsuits, cameras etc. So the academies are very geared towards ethics.

As a byproduct, the new recruits over the last 5-10 years are...different. again, at least in OC, they want very normal, regular candidates. The guy who has never been in a fight, waited for marriage for sex and went to college guy will be hired before the ex marine, or guy that didnt go to college but is solid as hell great work record guy.

There are good reasons behind that shift. Stat wise, those types are less likely to become a rafael perez. The flip side is they generally suck under pressure. Personally im a huge fan of education, but that all goes out the window when the fight is on, and your partner is some skinny 23 year old (man or woman) whos never been hit in the face before the academy. Ill take the guy who managed the night shift at albertsons and lifts weights for fun before he was a cop over the 23 year old with his bachelors all day long in patrol... (and i say that as someone with a degree).

So aftwer that long winded prep (my appologies), the answer is simple (for me). If someone is going to do anything that could cost me my job, no way in hell im keeping quiet. And i think thats mostly everyone here in this area. If any cop is going to do something shady, i would think hed be at least paronoid enough to not let anyone else know. Like i said, no way im risking unemployment or legal action for someone else doing something stupid.

Do you think it's possible that some cops have been thrown under the bus when they try to report illegal activities and abuse by other cops? Maybe not in OC, but with your general knowledge of the force (not Star Wars force).

yeah, definitely. I hate to say it but im sure that used to be the norm, even in OC. Im sure it still is in places now.

Ive been thinking about it the last few hours, trying to think of an example ive seen. The closest isnt so much someone "ratted" someone else out for something dirty, but more burned someone while kissing ass.

So for example, maybe 7 or 8 years ago a guy at work stopped a gauy for DUI. The guy said he was a doctor at one of the hospitals we go to a lot, so my partner had him par the car and get a cab. Another cop (who had like 2 years in and was being groomed by the bosses to be an admin type) who was there brought it up in briefing the next day, and mentioned it wasnt proffesional, and how the doctor should have been arrested. The cop who called the cab got written up for that. So the cop who mentioned in briefing isnt very liked...but did get detectives very quickly and will be my boss soon enough.

So stuff like that there is still a "thin blue line". Its not serpici, everyones going to come running to help if youre in danger. But the guys who dug a whole and have a bad rep (because theyre lazy, bad attitude, etc) are kind of on their own for everything else. Nobody is going to offer to take a report to help them out, cover them for a shift, that kind of thing.
