You can just make one out of a raspberry pi for like half that cost.

That actually would be kind of fun, I've been trying to think of a project to do to experiment with one of those...was thinking about a motorized timelapse dolly but that probably requires more mechanical/electrical skills than I posses (which would be about 0).

Raspberry Pi's are great.  I have like 5 of them.

 

Best part is you can have just 1 and multiple memory cards, it is like completely changing out the software/OS by just putting in a new memory card.

I was researching both the Raspberry Pi and the Arduino, seemed like Pi had more flexibility

Arduino is amazing but also much more technical.  You really need a good understanding of computer architecture to use one.  Start with a Pi

My sister has one of the alexa's at home, watching my nieces interact with it was funny. "alexa...what is the weather like today"...not that she knew what to do with the information. "alexa, play music"...Sister said they ask Alexa questions all the time. It's got crap for speakers though, so as a music playing device it's pointless for me. My brother-in-law had it wired to the house though, so it was pretty cool. He could turn on/off the backyard lights, adjust thermostat, etc.

echo is just amazon's way of re-using their failed phone project.

a thing that sits and listens to everything you do/say 24/7 which they can then use to get ads in front of you.

oh boy!

count me out.

 

i will give them props for the engineering side for quick response times.

thats a difficult problem.

I got a UE Boom (Logitech) bluetooth speaker over a year ago and I love it.

 

Great sound, good bass. I bring it down to the river, the beach and other parties and stream my spotify playlists.
