Simmons can HIT!!!

Recommended Posts

Because of Simmons contact ability and a BA on the rise I believe he should start hitting second against lefties at the very least.

I really like his ability to put in play but he doesn't provide the obp to be atop the lineup. I think 6-8 works where he can put the ball in play with runners on, especially if he can hit for a higher average.

He's better than our current #2 hitter.

No walks and small ball contact at all costs says he is Erick Aybar and shouldn't be any where near the top of the lineup. He is already the DP leader in the league and that is on offense. Keep him away from killing the top of the order until he learns some plate discipline and honestly, I just don't see that happening.

The guy is a career .280 hitter with a respectable .334 OBP batting 8th. That could be NL pitchers going after him or walking him because they know the pitcher is coming up next but lower his batting order and so does his stats, dramatically.

He can make contact but that is not the art of hitting.

Wonder if switching him and Gia at #7 and #9 would be good.

Would give Escobar more opportunities with a runner on base, and Simmons wouldn't ground into as many DPs with Perez and Gia in front of him.

Escobar seems like he'd do well with hit and run with Simmons on base too.

He's actually a career .256 hitter with a .303 OBP

Currently Escobar has been great leading off. Need a better #2 hitter.

Nava was doing fine. Give gentry and Ortega more time before making move.

The biggest thing this offense needs is for both Trout and Pujols to hit about 80 points higher than what they are doing right now.
