Why Not Try Austin Jackson?

He made 7.7M last year per BB reference. Maybe, the Cubs only paid him 1M worth of his contract when they got him?

Your right. Tigers covered 1M...

Google has him @ only 1M but your correct..

Still 6 mil is pretty good and he gets to be free agent at the end of the year, probably in a better market for OF...

Kinda shocked they offered Jackson a contract, that would have broken the color barrier that's been in place since the Howie trade. I know I'm the crazy one, but I still think Eric Thames has more upside, and very little downside in terms of dollars, than any other option being discussed. By the way he hit two bombs against the Trojans last night.

Thames OPS dwarfed Bjung-Ho Park's by .128 in the KBO. Both guys are 29 year old left handed power bats, one has a career OPS of .727 at the Major League level. However, the guy with the lower OPS last season and NO MLB experience is sitting on  a guaranteed $12,000,000 contract. Maybe Thames should change his name to Kim.

Offer him the full time job then! He's better defensively than Nava-Gentry and is a better offensive weapon that would bat leadoff. He's also younger. Plus, if he has a good year, you have the opportunity to recoup a draft pick.

This team needs Jackson. Or better, this team needs a LF.

Agreed.  If the option is Jackson or Nava/Gentry, Jackson is the better choice.  Anybody who doesn't realize that is foolish.

Looks like they did try to get him but Jackson turned down their 1yr offer

http://m.angels.mlb.com/news/article/165468196/angels-went-after-outfielder-austin-jackson

Michael Saunders wasn't the only outfielder the Angels nearly acquired in recent days. They also made a run at Austin Jackson, a lifelong center fielder who would've factored into a left-field platoon, a source with knowledge of the situation told MLB.com.

The Angels offered Jackson a one-year deal believed to be in the neighborhood of $5 million or $6 million, but Jackson's camp, headed by aggressive agent Scott Boras, sought more money. So the Angels moved on, and now, barring a turn of events, it appears they'll stick with what they have until Opening Day.

I would have made an offer of around $6 mil max myself.  He's done well in the past but his recent results are less than impressive.  Fact is, his last two seasons were sub-.700 OPS (.655 OPS in 2014 1.8 WAR, .696 OPS in 2015 1.6 WAR) and he has something to prove before he should be getting a 2+ year deal.  Hopefully, if Jackson still remains unsigned in March, they revisit it and can work something out.  His defense is still solid, he's still capable of 20 SB's a year, and might be the answer at lead-off if things can shake out right.

If Eppler has the magic touch and believes in Nava/Gentry, why are the halos now pursing alternative options?

Seems like we are now second guessing the path we've taken as spring is starting?  Fan freaking tastic.

The Jackson offer was long ago. I don't think they are actively pursuing anyone at this time.
