Go Pro camera

My daughter wants one for Christmas. Is it worth paying extra for the brand, or are the others just as good?

I have a friend that used them to film rec league softball. He went through a couple of the off rand ones before getting an actual go pro. The quality difference was huge. Definitely would suggest a go pro.

There is a lot of GoPro used in television. You can mount the little things anywhere and they will put up with being bounced around.

Don't waste time with the off brand ones especially with how good the actual GoPro's are.

 

I would also suggest looking up reviews and finding the ones with the better battery life, I heard that is the only downside.

I have the Go Pro Hero 4 and it's great. Happy that I got it over the others.

REI has a deal right now where you buy one and get some free accessories and such.

For those of you that have one, what do you shoot with it and what do you use it for?

I believe Costco has a package with some accessories too.  Not sure exactly which model they have.

im a cheap bastard ao ive only borrowed one. But i used to it film some great outdoors stuff, things i may never so again. For what you mentioned, yeah, probably not.

We used GoPros a ton filming stunts on The Player 2nd unit. Those things are so easy to rig onto vehicles and just about anywhere you want one. The image quality is superior to their competition at the comsumer level.

They are used a ton for POV.  The Film/TV industry uses them a lot.

In Russia, auto insurance companies require them.  That is why the internet is full of so many awesome crashes in Russia.

I've used one for MTB and surfing, its quite a nice camera, with really crisp images and video.
