Gordon or Zobrist?

Yeah, and what did he hit in September/Oct when he got the most consistent catching time?

Thanks for bringing that up ... that's exactly my point. We really don't know who he is yet on the offensive side. Although, I'm fine with a catcher who hits around .250 and brings solid dense to the game.

To me Bandy isn't a reliable backup if Perez goes down. I don't see the FO going with those two to begin the season.

Freeze isn't worth 15 per, but for 1 year its not a bad deal. That said, I'd much rather put that 15 million into something else and roll with Kubitza/Cowart or trade for a veteran 3B.

What veteran 3b is available for trade and what would he cost?

Murphy's defense is a liability.  Might as well  keep Giavotella. We need a defensive upgrade at second base badly. Not so much offense upgrade. It's why Sosh keeps subing Featherson , Green and Jackson in the late innings.

Murphy is much better than Johnny G in the field.  It isn't even close.  He is also a much better hitter.

Except that if Freese declines the QO, he may end up sitting out 2016 until the deadline passes for losing a draft pick.

Kendrys Morales stayed unsigned until June 2014, when the Twins signed him and thus didn't lose a draft pick.

Well, if that happens, that happens. We at least tried to get a draft pick, and saved ourselves $16/m. He has a week to accept it I believe, so it's not like it would prohibit us from making other moves if he turned it down.

It's an overpay, but only for one year. Go over the tax for a year, spend in the heavy FA class, let him walk next year.

For a franchise as well off financially as the Angels are, and one that's blow far more money on way worse contracts, what's really the harm in going over tax for a season or overpaying for one of the few 3B options for one season? I think he'd decline it anyways. With his age, inconsistencies, and a stronger 3B market next year, it'd be in his interest to get $25m-$40m this offseason rather than risk waiting another year.

It's about the best way for us to 'buy' a draft pick this year, especially if we wind up signing a FA who costs a pick.
