Some things are related and some aren't. Crime, welfare, and family formation correlate. Family and polio don't. Racism and family don't. Racism doesn't really correlate with anything other than the idea of race. Since women are as or more likely (I'll look it up) to be abused by boyfriends than husbands and children much more likely to be abused by boyfriends than fathers, I'd say that it's much better for women to be married than not and much much better for the children.

I don't think it has, actually. Much of the population has moved to suburbs or less populated parts of the country.

In case my point was missed, I just said that the fifties had low crime and he countered with the fact that we have the lowest crime rate since the early sixties.

What I tell my daughter is to screen for abusiveness during the dating phase. Your advice seems to be the opposite- that marry them if they're abusive. I prefer my method.

Nate, whenever women and men deal with each other, whether in a formal or informal manner, there's going to good and bad things happen. Women who don't marry still have to deal with men.
