Dollar Shave Club - why bother?

I am trying to figure out why guys go to the hassle of joining a shave club.  It can't be the price, getting a shit-ton of Mach 3s at Costco is pretty cheap.

Is it that better a shave?  To me, a razor is a razor; anything with a couple of blades works the same for me.

 

What am I missing?

Just get a safety razor. I've used one for the last year with a boar brush and it's great. 5 pack of blades is a couple bucks and they last for a while each one.

 

Not to mention it's a great shave.

5 bucks a month is still cheaper than Costco.  Not to mention, I live 4 hours away from one.

Blade packs are $17-18, the clubs are $5. Pretty big difference.

Last I did shave I did the safety blade and boar brush as well ($85 for that beast). I want to get a straight razor for the beard clean up.

I shave with a Merkur safety razor and a pack of 10 blades is $7. A bowl of shaving cream costs me a little over $15 but it seems like it lasts forever.

You can buy the exact same razors online for less than you get them through the dollar shave club.  A quick Google search tells you what brands they use and where you can buy them.

Anyway I am lazy and use an electric razor most of the time and a mach 3 when I need a closer shave.

i buy my razors at target. i'm currently using the gillette mach 5. a five pack of blades is about $16 and will last me for several months. i don't change my blades very often even though i shave 3-4 times per week.

I shave every day and use the mach 5 for a couple of weeks.

 

I'll be flat honest, I haven't bought razor blades in a decade or two.  My wife picks them up at Costco, and I have no clue how much they cost.  To me, shaving is a non-event, something I do every morning for three minutes before work.  Shave Club commercials make it sound like the Shave Club is a life changing event.  I guess I need to think about my shaving habits more.

I use an electric because I hate cutting myself plus it's easy to keep the back of my neck clean between haircuts.

 

Every 6 months I replace the cutters in the shaver and it's about $20.

 

Probably not as close as a blade but it's good enough, less mess, no blood.

 

Also I shave 6 days a week.
