It happens every day to citizens of the US that break laws and are arrested. The children are put into protective services. It's equal treatment under the law. But I guess you just can't wrap your head around it.

So is this our official position on the situation? None of the separated families were asylum seekers who were doing everything by the book as they know it? They were all criminal border crossers who were having their children abducted as a point of law enforcement so tough shit on them?

Equal treatment under the law. When parents are arrested and detained children are put into protective services. Yes, that is the stance we are taking.

Asylum seeking requires legal paperwork. Just crossing the border doesn't qualify even in a war torn country.
