La Russa: I'm not Angels Next Manager

Recommended Posts

In all honesty this shouldn't even move the needle either way.  I don't think personally there is much to any chance of LaRussa managing the Angels, but do you actually think he would say he has any interest even if he did? No matter what you think of Sosh as a manager he is VERY well respected in the baseball ranks and no one would attempt to undermine him, especially someone with the stature of LaRussa.

Interesting that LaRussa has formed such an opinion on this matter as if, you know, he's been giving this a lot of thought.

lol... what?  He said he isn't managing ever again.  Has nothing to do with considering the Angels.

Read the article linked above.  LaRussa was considering not coming to Anaheim this weekend because of the talk about Scioscia being fired.

Seems hard to believe that mere speculation by the sports media would affect a guy like LaRussa.  Why would he think twice about coming here -- or even discuss his availability as manager -- if the rumors about Scioscia had no merit?

He is doing it out of respect to Scioscia so not to be a distraction.

You missed the point.

If the rumors about Scioscia possibly being fired had no merit, why would LaRussa be concerned about being a distraction?  Sports writers circulate rumors all season long and most are laughed off.   So why would being a distraction even enter LaRussa's mind, to the point of considering canceling the trip?

I think this validates to a certain degree that the rumors are legit...

I think he means that him being in Anaheim for the Tigers Series would lead to more rumors and he doesn't want to be a part of that (speculation that MS is on the chopping block) out of respect for MS. He says he isn't interested in managing. Why don't you believe him?

why does everyone think that maddon would just jump at the chance to manage the angels? he's already a manager, he's already in the AL east and his team has brighter prospects legitimately than the angels.

Money. Something the Rays do not have

Except that money comes with major expectations. Maddon has a strong working relationship with Rays ownership, and he is adept at getting the best out of young players, which is mostly what the Rays have. With the Angels he would have a largely veteran team with a large payroll that is expected to produce big immediately, and this team still has plenty of holes despite the money that has been spent (and not all of it wisely, which is part of the problem).
