Report: Phil Mickelson Involved in Money Laundering, Gambling Operation

According to sources and court documents obtained by ESPN's Outside the Lines, Phil Mickelson was involved in the transfer of nearly $3 million as part of “an illegal gambling operation which accepted and placed bets on sporting events.”

 

Per this report, Mickelson has not been charged with a crime, and he is not under investigation, but $2.75 million of Mickelson’s money had been laundered by Gregory Silveira, a 56-year-old former sports gambling hadicapper, acting as a conduit for an offshore gambling operation.

Interesting headline.  Use lefty's name, implying involvement, and then point out halfway through the story that he hasn't been charged and isn't even under investigation.

 

I think I read about this a few weeks ago and the headline was the same.

phil is the kind of guy that'll stop at a kids lemonade stand and buy a drink, then give the kid a hundred dollar bill to keep. he's done this a few times.

I don't know about that.  Tiger is a dick to the media but his foundation has done an amazing job for kids.  It is constantly noted as one of the few athlete run foundations that isn't a total sham.  100% of the money goes the cause and Tiger doesn't take a penny from it, even for travel, etc.

It will be interesting to see what exactly constituted offshore gambling.  Was this guy in Vegas, and Mickelson wired him money to bet?  Or was this using something like Bovada to bet?  Or did Mickelson wire him money with intent to bet in Vegas, but this guy saw the 50% bonus and used Bovada or like site instead?

 

In either case.  Bad Mickelson.  Who you have in the Angels game tonight?
