Millennial Birthrates Decline; Armageddon Ensues

Recommended Posts

The thread title is definitely a hyperbole but while browsing yahoo and a few other sites this morning multiple articles popped up after a study showed that from 2007-2012 birthrates in the US among women in their 20's declined to the lowest number of any generation in the countries history:

Obviously the recession is the main reason for the drop but at the crux of it is a system that continues to squeeze the middle class.  The cost of raising a child continues to climb, college costs are out of control and wages more or less have been stagnant for years.  I remember some time back Jerry Brown said something to the effect of "I don't know what affluent families in CA are doing but they sure aren't having kids."  Does anyone else find irony in the fact that the system we (I'd rather say they but I'm a part of it too) created depends on people procreating but it's becoming too expensive for some people to do just that?  On the bright side these declines have hit all groups with would be single mothers being no exception.  I've got no doubts plenty of these people will have kids later in life but I'm just envisioning Idiocracy where the power couple waits to have kids and the husband strokes out trying to fill up a sperm cup.

More effective birth control, things like Tinder devalue real relationships so you can hook up and not have the commitment, and in our demographic  you come across more couple interested in going to Europe or do fun things opposed to planning on having a kid.
