French student admits her lie got teacher beheaded: reports

French student admits her lie got teacher beheaded: reports

A 13-year-old student has confessed to spreading a false story about French history teacher Samuel Paty — which set off a horrific chain of events that led to him being beheaded last year, reports said Tuesday.

The girl, whose name has not been released, admitted that she had "lied" about a classroom incident at the school west of Paris in order to please her father, the Independent reported.

She originally claimed that Paty, 47, had asked Muslim students to leave the class before he showed them cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a class on free speech, the outlet reported.

The girl reportedly told her father that she was then suspended for two days after she challenged the teacher for sending Muslim students into the hall while he showed the blasphemous image.

Her fib caused her father to file a legal complaint against the teacher, which then started a social media campaign, the BBC reported.

Backlash grew against Paty since depictions of Muhammad are forbidden in Islam — and regarded by Muslims as highly offensive.

Ten days later, the teacher was beheaded by an 18-year-old man, Abdullakh Anzorov, who was later shot dead by police.

But it has now emerged that the girl was not even in class on the day of the supposed incident at the school in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine.

The girl apparently had been suspended the day before for failing to attend class and didn’t want her father to know about the punishment, French newspaper Le Parisien reported.

Her attorney on Monday confirmed that the girl was not in class  — but claimed it was because she was out sick on the day.

"She lied because she felt trapped in a spiral because her classmates had asked her to be a spokesperson," her lawyer, Mbeko Tabula, told Agence France-Presse.

Costco membership fees poised to increase

The current price for Costco members is $120 annually for the Gold Star Executive package. Costco's membership fee last increased in June of 2017, when it added $10 to the package.

While the Gold Star Everyday value runs $60 annually, it increased by $5 last go-round.

Analysts noted that Costco's membership fee increases every five to 5.5 years, suggesting its next increase for international customers will begin in 2021 with U.S. and Canadian shoppers getting hit with an increase in the latter half of 2022.

Here's the 2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup before you're supposed to see it

That means it will be a front-wheel-drive-based vehicle with an available all-wheel-drive system, which the pickup in the photos is equipped with along with an independent rear suspension. Size comparisons put the crew cab short bed at about two-feet shorter than a Ford Ranger.

Engine options will likely be the same as the Bronco Sport's, which offers the choice of a 181 hp turbocharged three-cylinder and 250 hp turbocharged four-cylinder.

I’d love to have a smaller truck again. The old Ford Rangers. S-10 and Toyota’s were great. I’m not sure why they stopped making them

I like the paint job but it seems like it’d be exceptionally labor intensive.

I agree.  There's no such thing as a smaller pick up truck.  The Chevy Colorado is even huge now.

Every year smart glasses threaten to become the next big thing in tech. Could Facebook or a smaller player like Vuzix make this happen?

The promise of smart glasses is an alluring prospect. Imagine seeing and doing everything on your glasses that you would normally see and do on your smartphone. And a lot more.

For instance, imagine following directions on your glasses as you text your friend your location. Then you arrive at a coffee shop, which the glasses recognize, and up pops a menu. Then you snap a photo of the shop and send it off.

Inside, you sit down but instead of pulling out your laptop, you begin editing a document on a virtual screen and keyboard.

That’s the future. Vuzix, which has been selling smart glasses since 2011, offers smart glasses now and is slated to bring out a major upgrade this year. Those glasses will offer smartphone integration, immersive sound, and tiny micro-LED projectors – which provide the images you see.

They will also offer augmented reality (AR), probably the single biggest marquee feature of next-generation glasses. AR merges what you see in the real world with virtual data, which you can see combined in a 3D space in front of you.

The turnover rate on those old Toyotas were so bad.  Probably 90% of those small Toyotas that were ever produced in the 80's are still on the road by gardeners everywhere.

Or terrorists.
