The most unfortunate part about all of this, is that it is still very unlikely that both the Tigers and As miss the playoffs all together.  I was really hoping for that.

Not really. Chances are good that one will miss the playoffs and another will make the wild card game. And then with Felix pitching in the WC game, chance are also good that the other will lose that game.

I would rather the A's make the playoffs, they just seem like the easier team to beat.

Still hoping the A's and Mariners make it (for the WC) along with KC and Baltimore for their respective divisions. Really don't want to see Detroit or New York in the playoffs. However, Oakland is really doing everything they can to get one of those teams in.

I just fear the Angels having to face Baltimore in the ALCS.  Angels have not shown the ability to beat them.

While there are many mysteries surrounding the collapse of the A’s entering the start of this next-to-last road trip of the season Monday, none is more puzzling than Oakland’s sudden inability to convert bases-loaded situations.

 

Back when the A’s were still the winningest team in the game, the A’s owned a .318 batting average with the bases full. That was through Aug. 2. Oakland was 67-42 at the time, 25 games over .500 and, despite having slumped some with the Angels making a furious charge, still considered a shoo-in to the playoffs.

 

Oakland is 13-20 since then, seven games behind the Angels, and the Wild Card seems the only entry open to the A’s. Even that’s being tested.

And in that 33-game stretch, the A’s are hitting just .234 with men in scoring position, the time when the odds are most in a hitter’s favor. Not only is that number way off the A’s earlier performance, it’s well beneath the .282 collective average of all American League hitters.

You can see why the White Sox are so bad. Terrible defense, bad managing. He didn't bunt in the bottom of the 11th with no outs? Wow! Even if the batter isn't a good bunter, you have to try. Baseball 101.

Robin Ventura is as bad of a manager as he is a fighter.

And if the hitting continues to progress, we'll be fine.

The O's have a solid rotation, but no true stars in it although Tillman has that potential.

O'Day and Britton, on the other hand, are a handful in the 8th and 9th innings.

What a battle of the pens that ALCS would be, if both teams were to reach it.

 

And that would be a tons closer ALCS than the 1979 one, where the O's were a significantly better team.

 

Remember that all 6 games this season pretty much went down to the wire.

We played the O's 6 times in a 10 game span in the midst of our post-ASB malaise.  All the games were close and I have no fear of facing them in any series.

The team that concerns me the most is the Royals... the back end of that bull pen is filthy.  Something about that team just makes me nervous.

We nor the Angels should be worrying about who they play..you play to get to the playoffs for what? Just to make it? No..you play to get in and fight to win it all..and to win it all you have to beat the best of the best sooner or later..so in my view I dosent matter who they play..they're gonna have to beat the best regardless to get fitted for rings

i think miguel gonzalez is their best starter. he's a handful, when he's healthy.
