Another look at the rotation

Recommended Posts

Weaver...27 starts leads the AL, very respectable 3.70 ERA, still a very solid pitcher and great competitor.

Wilson...won 17 games last year. He's figuring some things out, and looked much better in his last two starts. 12 innings, 3 ER, 2 wins. Too many walks though, and still too many pitches.

Shoemaker...last 28 days: 2.03 ERA, 7.00 SO/BB, 0.900 WHIP. 11-4 this year. Solid to the core.

Santiago...last 28 days: 4 starts, 1.82 ERA, 1.014 WHIP

Wade LeBlanc...cross your fingers and hope for the best.

At this point, I think we need to focus on making these 5 inning games.  This means that our bullpen needs to keep doing what it has been doing and our offense needs to step up.  We don't need our SP to be lights out, only good enough.  I'll feel very good if we are able to get our SP to give us 5 solid innings.  The bullpen has been, and likely will continue to be overworked, but I like our depth and September might give some of these guys a breather when rosters expand.

Absolutely.....we may wear them all out but it's worked since the Grilli and Street trades....keep riding that horse...

I'm expecting the 5th spot to be by committee, as only two starts will be made before September 1.

LeBlanc, Wolf, Roth, Rucinski, etc?

Even Mickey Callaway didn't stay in the 2002 rotation for long, even after outpitching Derek Lowe in Fenway Park.
