I think it's a good thing that the "bench" players know they have a big and fairly well defined role to play. Cowgill has earned playing time and you can either say it's at Calhoun's expense or you can say it's Calhoun because Trout and Hamilton aren't going to sit right now.

 

This reminds me of how Scioscia managed Gil and Wooten in 2002.

According to 1090 AM in San Diego, the Angels have expressed interest in starting pitcher Ian Kennedy. One of the would be trade pieces looks to be Kole Calhoun. The Padres want depth in the outfield with the constant injuries to Carlos Quentin and possible trade of Chris Denorfia.

Kennedy is probably no more than a 4th starter. I wouldn't be opposed to a trade if it was a straight up Calhoun for Kennedy deal though.
