Astros give prospect Jon Singleton $10 million for five years.

Crazy to think about.  They are basically mitigating the fact that they are starting his clock early by signing him to a bargain of a contract.  Think about it, if he is even a decent 1b he would probably get close to 10m in his first two arbitration years.

The Astros are making done wise choices and have big time bats down in the minor leagues and will have an intriguing blend of speed and power throughout the lineup soon, which is kind if scary.

They also have nothing in the way if pitching prospects ready to make the jump and simply cannot attract the high caliber FA to sign there. There's also no veteran presence there. It'll be a long time before the Astros will scare me as an Angels fan.

The A's sure as heck do.

Good move for Houston. 1B who hit tend to be overvalued so getting him at this price is a nice little deal for them.

I'm legitimately getting scared about Houston. With the developments of Keuchel and McHugh and the callups of Springer and Singleton, they're getting close to becoming a good MLB team.

They still have ways to go but they could be a real force in a year or so.

Aren't all of the international free agent signings considered major league contracts? There are all of the Japanese pitchers like Darvish, Tanaka and Matsusaka that went directly to the majors on a contract without ever setting foot in the minors. Chapman from Cinci signed a 6 year $32.5 million dollar contract before ever putting on a uniform and played in his first year, not spending 5 seasons in the minors before getting the call.

is this is a joke? This guy is light years ahead of b.wood

Singleton in two AAA seasons has a BA of .241, striking out once every three at-bats.  Meh.

Speaking of Wood, he's currently hitting .098 for the Sugar Land Skeeters in the independent Atlantic League.

I guess the scouting report made it all the way to the Independents. I'm sure it was waiting for him when he got there...like a throw from left field with Calhoun rounding third.

Man I’m sure glad I didn’t post anything dumb. Singleton will be the number one example people will point to when prospects sign a long term deal early in their career.

He did close to nothing in the majors but has $10 million to show for it
