So Freese begins the season in an awful slump and you're already saying the trade sucks, Dipoto failed? 

 

Why don't you reserve judgement until either the end of the season or until Freese is out of the equation because he's replaced by someone else. Three weeks in it's too early to say Dipoto blew it on this trade. I wish we didn't have to give up Grichuk in the deal, but after his first couple appearances Salas has been tough out of the bullpen. Right now Bourjos isn't doing jack for the Cardinals and Grichuk is in AAA.

 

I'm disappointed in his start, but I'm not conceding that his entire season will be like this. I know that a lot of people dismiss this, but just like Pujols two years ago, this is his first year in a new league hitting mainly against pitchers who he has faced sparingly if at all. We're not even at the end of April yet.

I'll say it again. The trade will ultimately be a joke, because as bad as Pujols was in April 2012, it wasn't THIS bad (sub .400 OPS).

I highly doubt that Freese, if he continues to struggle, will get close to 500 PA. Hell this is one of the shortest leashes Scioscia has had with a veteran yet. Freese is nearly being platooned already. The only thing that rivals this as it relates to pulling the plug on someone for Scioscia was Rodney losing the closers role 3 games into the season.

I can't see who the hitter is, because you have to subscribe to Baseball Reference to see the name of the first nine players on any search result. That's how I figured it was Vernon with his .248 OBP, which is first on the list for AL outfielders since 1901.

It is not just his hitting either. He has not been good in the field. At least remove him for MacDonald in the late innings so we have improved defense at the hot corner. This is at least the second game that a big double down the third base line cost us the game. The first time I think Stewart was at third, but last night it was Freese. Granted, they were positioned poorly by the coaching staff, but Freese should have been able to stop that ball.
