17 Left on Base

Some nights you'll bat 1.000 with men in scoring position and lose. Others, you'll strand 17 ducks on the pond and still find a way to win. It's just the way it goes.

Look at the bright side, the Angels are dangerous right now. They're putting a lot of men on base and if the offense operates even slightly more efficient, they'll put up a lot of crooked numbers.

I don't mean to be a Debby Downer, but

Now I'm not sexist, but...

Any time a sentence starts with a phrase like that, you know exactly what is going to follow.

In 2012, 2013 and now the start of 2014 the halos wRC+ with RISP is a decent amount worse than overall.  Oddly enough, their walk rate goes up and their BABIP goes down.  Makes me wonder if they have the 'productive out' mentality with RISP and it's causing more weak contact.

It's not just RISP though.  It's actually the high leverage situations that are killing us.  the team has a wRC+ of 110 in low leverage and 84 in high leverage over the last 2+ years.  From what I can tell this looks like the biggest discrepancy of any team by a lot.  Not sure why this is.

I think the technical term for this is "choking."
