What is the aversion to throwing a first pitch strike? Even when he threw close pitches he didn't get the call because he was missing early in the count. I do think Almonte is probably the best four strike hitter in baseball so far this year.

I think Weaver's point was that it was a 1 run deficit in the 9th which is well within reach. The bullpen ruined that quickly.

I'm a big fan of Weaver's but he has zero room to talk here. Not being able to go more than 6 innings and giving up 4 runs (3ER) to one of the worst offensive teams in baseball is a fail for the staff "ace".

 

He would have been justified in his comments if he himself pitched well.

He gave up three earned runs, one being an inherited runner given up immediately by the blow pens next best loser behind Jepsen. Last time I checked, that's a quality start. The worst offensive team in baseball? Are we using spring training numbers to determine who the best and worst teams are now? 

 

Weaver had every right to say what he did. I applaud him for it. It's about time somebody says something real.

Love this coming from Weaver. This is exactly what this team needs, some accountability. He recognizes that these games are just as important as the last games of the season and he is not buying in to the propaganda.

Took him a whole 72 hours to figure out he had nobody in front of him or behind him in the lineup.  

 

It's why he took a special interest in helping Smoak improve his approach, particularly on low inside fastballs.  

 

If Smoak and Ackley both increase their production by 10% over where they were at the end of last year, the M's lineup might not be among the worst in MLB anymore.  

 

I don't know what he is complaining about. Collectively the Mariners are batting .306/.422/.611/1.033 thus far in 2014.

Any truth that Weaver was only touching 84/85 on his fastball? Didn't pay attention to that last night.
