Angels Official Website: Blanton pitches 2 1/3 innings with increased deception

Recommended Posts

I hope he does well.  He can only help the Angels, since the Angels aren't exactly a deep team.

I was actually more concerned about Santiago.  At times it looked like he was throwing at the plate and really didn't know where the ball would end up.  Ordinarily i would say it's just spring.  But what I saw yesterday is exactly how a 1.3-1.4 WHIP pitcher looks pitching.  So his performance was a bit more concerning since he is going to be a vital part of the team.

Ibanez was stellar in left field the first inning Blanton pitched. Always makes sense to play shallow against a right handed batter when you have his wheels. Did any of you see how quickly he got to that ball that bounced in front of the wall? Definitely kept that from being an inside the park home run.

The good thing from that is that maybe, just maybe, Scioscia finally got the hint that Ibanez can't play in the OF anymore.

Maybe he needs to use the KISS analogy, and not have sooo many pitches in his repitoire?    Just a thought.

I had thought originally that he did come across as a bit of a cerebral pitcher like Wilson, through his interviews.   This is just one game, but something to keep an eye on.
