8 in the chest? Either he's a really great shot or he had time and was very close. I generally side with police officers in their requirements to make split second life and death decisions but this one looks really hard to explain and justify.

The system didn't fail. As with most issues these days the failure is with the people entrusted with seeing that the system is administered correctly. If the DA had any balls he'd indict whoever allowed the grand jury to vote for obstruction.

But prosecutors immediately said they would resubmit the case after they learned that not all of the grand jurors were present for the decision. They didn't specify whether they would stick to the original voluntary manslaughter charge or would seek lesser charges.

No explanation for why the grand jury voted with fewer than 18 members — 12 of whom must agree — was offered.

are you kidding?  To me that is the definition of fail.  Not only wouldn't the remaining members of the GJ indict this guy, it shouldn't even have happened because there wasn't enough of them.

That's my point. Someone allowed the vote without a full GJ. That's where the blame lies. Whoever that was should be indicted for obstruction.

Doesn't matter.  The guy is a policeman.  They never do anything wrong.  Just read the threads on here.  There are always a lot of people who will defend them regardless.  The victim was a big, scary black guy.

no indictment.

Hilarious... those threads are 50 people saying **** the police and one or two defending them.

Anyway this is a failure of the GJ and the DA.

more like four or five but fair point.  There are always some people who will never question what the police do.

Just to clarify, I think the guy deserves worse that voluntary manslaughter. I'm just saying the failure is not with the system but with the guardians of the system. Zero accountability for the cop, the DA, or the GJ.

"He's extremely relieved that the grand jury members saw fit to keep an open mind and not listen to all the propaganda on all the things he did wrong," Laughrun said.

This one got my blood boiling. "Propaganda" aka "facts". He's relieved that the grand jury decided to ignore those facts and "keep an open mind".

The Las Vegas Review-Journal ran a series about shootings involving the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department ("Metro" in the local lexicon). The shootings were invariably found to be justified, including one that involved the shooting of a mentally disturbed Vietnam veteran surrounded by a group of officers and patrol cars. He was shot several times by several officers, in his car with no weapon.

In case you want a little light reading sometime. It's a multi-part series that was very well done.

Deadly Force: When Las Vegas Police Shoot, and Kill

Sounds like the "Police Academy" bunch would better protect LV then the current crop.

They seem to have adopted a "shoot first, ask questions later" approach to law enforcement. There have been some recent changes (due to public outcry) regarding the review system that occurs after officer-involved shootings. Time will tell whether they will make any difference.
