why are some months dedicated to one specific thing?

I don't knoe if dedicated is the right word, but like October and breast cancer awareness? Yes breast cancer is a big deal,and it's important for people to realize the significance of it, but why then isn't there a lung cancer awareness month, pancreatic cancer awareness month, skin cancer month, and so on?

Same thing with February and black history month. Wheres the native American history month, asian american history, european american history month... if we're supposed to be one United country with a diverse pot, why single out an ethnicity?
