He once threw 235 pitches in a game against the Red Sox. Thirteen innings....struck out 19 hitters and got a no-decision. 

 

That, to me, is one of the incredible all-time pitching feats.

I don't think it's a matter of his not getting along with others. He probably wanted a bigger role than merely being a "figurehead" of the organization.

 

I agree, but I have a what I suspect is a different take from yours on the "figurehead" angle.

 

Perhaps he was sick and tired of having no input whilst being made to be the public face of a team that pulls off THE MOST EPIC CHOKES IN BASEBALL of every possible type YEAR AFTER YEAR? The degree to which the Rangers choke is of a nature that one would have to try to fail in order to do it so continuously. You should be a fan of a team that has won two or so WS titles by now, and that's not a joke.

 

If you're going to be the face of something and have absolutely no input, it might as well be something that makes you look good, right?
