They're not progressive at all, and I wouldn't choose to live in any of those countries. But the rise of groups like the Taliban, Hamas, and ISIS were a direct response to the U.S., Israel, and others playing world cop. If the U.S. bombed my house and my child died, I'd probably be drawn to groups that promised to avenge my suffering.

It's a shitty situation all around.

Yes , Islam has always been peaceful. They were so friendly all the Christian Arabs and Jews handed over their properties without conflict. The Ottoman Empire was a direct result of American Imperialism.
