Big smartphone day

Sony has their conference going on right now.  Xperia Z1 officially announced.

Samsung has their event today at 10 AM PST/1 PM EST.  They will be announcing the Galaxy Note 3 and the new Galaxy Gear smartwatch.  I am interested in the Galaxy Note 3 if it has a metal body.

The gear looks awesome.  It is Android of course, it looked really smooth and it totally integrates with Galaxy phones.

 

It has one HUGE problem though, IMO.  $300.  Much more than I am willing to pay.

 

I do think I will buy a Note 3 though.

i think the gear will be a flop.

samsung is just throwing things at a wall.

 

a huge whole point of wearables is new biometrics. it has none.

smart watches are a hard sell, especially at that pricepoint (way too high IMO for what it does).

also less than a day of battery life? 

 

but who knows.

They said 25+ hours of battery.

 

It has an accelerometer but no true biometrics.  Totally agree there.

oh i read something like 8-10 hrs battery.

i think thats the big issue apple is trying to solve before they try one of these.

and yeah biometrics.

 

i should have stated i think its great theyre releasing things. 

any new gadgets are always fun.

only supported with 2 android phones right now though but that will change.

Yeah, I think it is really neat but too expensive.

 

Once they get the SDK out I am sure a bunch of devices will support it.

 

The iWatch should be interesting.  My guess is it is similar but sleeker.

I see absolutely no reason to have a smart watch. Screen sizes are getting ridiculous. I wouldn't want anything bigger than the 4.7" on my Nexus 4. The original Note seemed huge when it came out and now it's barely any bigger than half the regular phones these days.

We have come a long way from when Derek Zoolander's small phone was the bees knees.
