Looks like the house's occupants (if any) have a clear path to go south on hwy 1.   I hope for their sake that civilization is closer to them from the south.

here's hoping that target and walmart are not to the north.

Last time a slide close to this size occurred, it took 14 months to clear. Can't imagine how long this may take. Hope no one has plans on coming up that way.

That doesn't look like an easy cleanup at all.  Might be easier just to build a tunnel there.

This slide happened in 2006 on Hwy 140 just up the road from me...they built 2 temporary bridges over the Merced River and back, that were supposed to be removed in 2 or three years. They are still in place and no permanent fix has been started, or even approved, almost 11 years later.

Good luck to Big Sur..caltrans and the state move VERY slowly.

Due to the high number of incidents in which major damage has done to our roadways, we will be increasing the gas tax to fix these damages.  Also, due to the high amount of damage these record rains have caused, we will be increasing the water rate.

All of which will be diverted to the general fund to pay for my private train.

  • 3 weeks later...

Right now it's just about perfect in Irvine as it's 79 degrees and there's a light breeze.  Forecast for HB is mid to high 70's this weekend and the warmest day in the next week and a half is supposed to be Wednesday in the low 80's.  I'll be staying as far away from the beach as possible since it's sure to bring people from inland but given that it's summer I'd be doing that anyways.

Now they say it will be 124 Tuesday and Thursday. That means we will see areas reaching 128-130.

We get this every year and these kind of weeks are really hard on the crews. Definitely have all of them on heat watch. We will be starting at 3 instead of 4 like usual.

Tough time to be a roofer or part of a road crew.

104 and EXCRUCIATING. Supposed to get hotter during the week.

uh. Hate this shit.

Not supposed to get above 90 on the west side of LA. Which means, God hates the rest of California, or the West side donated well at church.
