WTF is with this bleeping weather?

hope you're safe, home brewer. it's going to be a long summer for fire fighters.

we went to bakersfield on saturday and it was depressing to see that all of those beautiful wildflowers on the drive were not only gone (not a surprise), but the hills looked just as dry and brown as if there had been no drought relief this winter/spring.

All the extra rain did here was make the grass and brush higher and thicker, and now that it's dry it's total tinder.

It could be a catastrophic fire season for those of us us that don't chose to live on the asphalt and concrete.

@Redondo  Another few more degrees.  And it's time to take you off the grill and let you rest, so that you will be a perfect medium rare.

It feels like that sometimes. My dad used to say that the weather here cooked peoples brains and in some cases I have to agree with him.

At the end of the day it sure is nice to take a shower and sit in the A/C.

Went to the theater yesterday to see Spiderman and there was a line outside for the 4:40 showing. It was only 4:15 and a 105 out so we said screw that, we will try next weekend. Walked over to the Barnes & Noble and had an iced coffee while reading a cook book I may pick up later.

Now a "major incident" The Detwieler Fire. I know some people in the evac area, just heard from a common friend that they turned their animals loose and hightailed it. They expect to lose their home, if it isn't already gone. It's grown so big so fast that fire personnel have withdrawn and are regrouping to attack it in the morning. Heavy smoke and ash falling where I am, about 10 miles away crow flight.

@Homebrewer, hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Heard they're evacuating Mariposa. Stay safe!

I have been evacuated....twice. Once from home and then from friend I went to stay with. I have a laptop and a few clothes and that's IT. We are nomads in 2 vehicles with 2 dogs and 2 cats...had to leave horses and goats as they got us out of there pretty fast.

Sheriff's posse has since vanned them to a shelter somewhere..we hope.

It's a huge clusterfuck here. Stayed 2 nights at a hotel near Yosemite, and now are in a Doctor's house in El Portal..(look it up) Far as we know our places are still standing...but when we can go back is anyone's guess..might be up to two weeks. Know several people who have lost homes and many that are unsure.

First time I've been able to sit with a computer for a few days...but I'm alive!
