I work in Saudi and my wife and daughter live in Bahrain. I cross the causeway bridge 2 or 3 times a week. The squadron for whom I run the simulator is on break this week so I think I'll just sit in Bahrain and listen to the Shia vs Sunni battles instead of getting caught in the AQ stuff.

 

Wow, I lived in Saudi as a kid and also went to boarding school in Bahrain, I wouldn't want to live over there now.  Hope your family stays safe!

We drove from Arcadia to Rancho Cucamonga today and I noticed a ton of highway patrol on the roads, way more than normal.  Law Enforcement definitely had a larger presence than usual.

Something's going on. What bothers me is nobody is telling us anything specific, just talking about alerts and seeing increased police everywhere.

Interesting that Zawahiri apparently ordered this.  His M.O. before OBL died was to basically focus of killing American soldiers and not focus on the large scale attack at all.

This was the Obama Administration pulling a page from the Bush Administration.  Say there is a terrorist threat to stop people from talking about the NSA issue and to try to remind people they should be very afraid.  They then use that fear to try to remind people why we have allowed our civil liberties to be taken away from us since 9/11.

The problem is terrorism has been a real issue for the twenty years that it can't be taken lightly. However things like the Iraq war make Americans really question the government when it comes to this issue. What are real threats and what is just the government doing to push their own agenda?

Still quiet over here and the only thing I noticed was stepped up customs inspections on the Bahrain side of the causeway. Other than that it looks like business as usual as the Ramadan comes to a close. We'll see what happens once the Eid Al Fitr starts.
