Not money he wanted but with opt out he could be on market again after this year.

If we signed him and he had a good year he opts out and we’d lose a pick. If we signed him and he reverted back to 2021 or 2022 performances then we are paying him $80 million to suck and we lose a pick.

Would have been an incredibly dumb signing by the Angels.  Which is why I was expecting it to happen, given their recent history.

Boras knows what he was doing, he's one of the most stat driven people in MLB and he had to be aware of the noise.  His boy gets to do it again next season when the Cubs can't offer him another QO.

This is lower payroll halos. Sign players to major league deals and send them to minors.
