Angel Stadium plays nothing like Dodger stadium anymore, it's become quite the hitter's parks in recent seasons which is why Rengifo's struggles at home were/are curious.  Angel Stadium's park index for hitters this season is 107, Dodger Stadium is sitting at 96.  For his career India has a .670 OPS in Dodger stadium over 45 PAs, but that sample is so small it's not really useful.

The reason you look at ALL road games is that it will invariably include games in hitter's parks and you want to get as neutral a read as possible.  OPS+ tries to do this but extreme parks will always lead to slanted numbers, typically in the power category -- Coors and Cinci are extreme examples of this -- the park in SF being the complete opposite.

So I have a theory on this (that you can probably shoot down pretty easily with facts).

But someone else mentioned this to me like 2 years ago. That Angel stadium is a pitchers park. And they listed the recent years numbers.

I thought about it, and thought maybe the yellow line in RF did that. But the majority of players are right handed, so not sure that's it. (But who knows)

So I thought "what other changes to the stadium could have changed? They move the fences? Foul lines? What could it be?"

And then my theory. Could it be that being that Angel pitching has been pretty freaking horrible for the past decade be what's showing it as a hitters park now? Not that it's easier to hit in, just that the one constant at every home game is Angel pitching?

this definitely has to be a consideration.

Nah, they look at every at plate appearance by everyone, Angels and their opponents.  So if it was just bad Angels pitching then those pitchers would be bad across the board and not just at home.  Plus the Angels hitters don't get to face those guys, remember .. the Angels' hitters are 50% of the measurable PAs.

I looked up the stat cast data's three years rolling numbers and it has the stadium being much closer to neutral and Dodger Stadium's HR index is actually higher than Angel Stadium. That likely seems off but a park can be a HR park and a pitchers park at the same time because o

f the other factors.  The stadium in Seattle has a similar thing going on.  Last year T-Mobile Park had the third highest HR index in MLB (126), while also sporting an overall park index of 98.

Sir, YOU should know better!  Mark478 tried to use that reasoning while defending the Rangers pitching staffs of yesteryear.

Wondering if this played into drafting the lefty hitting Schanuel, to get his pitch recognition right away and hopefully big SLG% eventually.

Makes sense, select players that are likely to be successful in your home park.  Do you think we’ll see him next year?

Angels among the highest scoring teams in baseball. Also among the highest scored upon teams in baseball. Spending trade deadline assets on non-pitchers makes no sense

We’re short on catching depth and a 1b with a wRC+ of 120 or so.
