I am sure he wanted to but after it got within 3 they had to do what they had to do to win the game.

They didn’t have to. It’s not like he was the only reliever left.

They didn’t use Estévez despite it being a 1-run lead in the 9th.

They could’ve decided to give Soriano 2 days off like they did with Estévez, but chose not to.

Ok true. But I think the workload concern for Estévez was much more serious than for Soriano.

Estevez had thrown about 21 pitches and looked bad in his last outing. Soriano had thrown 11 in a perfect inning.

If you wanna be critical of the pitcher choice, I think I’d have used Loup in the 7th to get 3 outs closer before trying Ingram. But I get that he wanted Ingram to face the bottom of the order.

They should theoretically have this type of problem less often going forward because they have more off days. Plus, adding Moore into the mix gives one more reliable arm to spread out the high leverage work. And I also think Loup is figuring it out, if you look at his last 7-8 games.

Yeah you have to think the team is getting a good feel for what these guys are capable of as far as frequency of usage and situation. If everyone gets healthy you have Loup, Bachman, Soriano, Devinski to get you to Moore and Estevez. It allows you to send Joyce to Salt Lake to work on command without dealing with the experimental balls in AA and still have Davidson for mop up

that’s why I would’ve considered going to him over Soriano in the 8th.

You had to go to a higher leverage reliever in Webb in the 7th to clean up Ingram’s mess. But I felt like you could sneak 3 outs from Loup in the 8th instead of Soriano because it was back to the same bottom of the Royals lineup.
