He can be optioned. That's pretty much the only reason it's him instead of someone else.

Quijada is toast. As soon as Tommy John surgery is announced, Wantz will be back up.

Why did they choose to option Wantz over Silseth?

I don't agree with it, but I understand they won't DFA any relievers yet, but Silseth had options and was newly introduced to the bullpen.

I assume since you asked this you saw the answer. Nevin seems to be pretty excited about Silseth’s potential as a high leverage reliever. He basically said today that that’s his role for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, I did.

He’s got great stuff, but I’m a little surprised they’re ready to put him into a high leverage role this quickly.

But maybe I shouldn’t be, since he was in that role in his 2nd MLB relief appearance and the front office isn’t afraid to accelerate players.
